Hi! I’m Tracyjane and I’m a freelance Calligrapher and Graphic Designer and have been making graphic props for Film and Television for the last 15 years.
Prior to moving into Graphic Design, I had worked in television production since 1992. Having gained my degree in Design and Communication from Ravensbourne University, I initially worked in TV Floor Management on Channel 4s ‘The Big Breakfast’ before joining the BBC, taking full advantage of their world-renowned training courses.
Having worked to the exacting and demanding standards of the BBC on a variety of high-profile productions, I found myself increasingly working in the area of artistic prop creation so it seemed a natural progression for me to move into freelance graphic design. There I applied my extensive industry expertise to the design and production of bespoke graphic props for a range of television productions.
However, the artistic beauty of calligraphy had always piqued my interest and during lockdown I took time to develop and hone my calligraphic skills; this is now where my greatest passion lies.
Each calligraphic undertaking is a journey of historical research and discovery, an insight into and understanding of handwriting style and evolution through the centuries, a challenge to constantly exceed expectations, and a fusion of the beauty and intricacies of the past with the modernity and requirements of the present.
A favourite assignment was working with the Designer Kave Quinn and Director Autumn De Wilde to create calligraphic pieces bringing to life their vision for the rooms they curated for the summer exhibition (In America: An Anthology of Fashion) at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. It was an utter joy to research and recreate to the most exacting standards items from times gone by and to see my work featured in an exhibition at one of the world’s most famous museums.
